THE GRACIOUS HAND OF GOD WAS ONCE AGAIN UPON THE 2009 MISSION OF HOPE-HONDURAS TRIP. BILL AND ELLEN GASS RETURNED FROM A 2 MONTH PROJECT IN HONDURAS WHERE INCREDIBLE THINGS WERE ACCOMPLISHED IN THE NAME OF JESUS.
This year much time was spent in construction of a new workshop in a new location outside of San Juan Pueblo. Unfortunately, the workshop we have been using was located on private land owned by a Honduran that allowed us to use his land. After eight years, he found it necessary to make other use of the land which forced us to move. Whle the new site was under construction (at no cost to our donors), volunteers continued to work on our other projects.
Working with families in extremely impoverished areas, 5 new elementary schools were built by Mission of Hope-Honduras last year! This brought the total number of schools built by Mission of Hope-Honduras to 10. Each of these schools was supplied with desks, seats, teaching materials and again this year we supplied all student materials for the entire school year. Over 600 children received school supplies. Also, tuition scholarships and school materials were given to 8 high school students.
Scholastic Book Club has again donated story books at the elementary level which were distributed to the 10 Mission of Hope-Honduras schools. Each of the mission libraries received reading skill books for the classrooms as well. Hundreds of books are now in the hands of the children as they learn the joy of reading.
Ellen continued to visit area in need for clothing and handed out new clothing for those in need. The clothing comes from donated clothes at clothing drives held through out the year by Mission of Hope. They are brought to Honduras as luggage of volunteers at $100/40# container. Cost of luggage is paid for by the volunteers.
A dental team of 6 joined us once again this year. They spent 8 days going into regions where many people had never received dental care. Nearly 400 patients received loving care from an incredible group of Christians. The love of Jesus was shared throughout the project. The dental team will be returning with us to Honduras in 2010.
We are so grateful for the guidance God has given our mission. We thank everyone for their prayers and support.
As we prepare for our upcoming 2010 trip, we know that God will continue to bless His children in need.
