MEMORIAL HOMES

memorialplaque

It started in 2005 by an American family that wanted to donate a home for the poor as a memorial to the lives of loved ones. A framed memorial including a picture of the family members named in the memorial was presented to the Honduran family receiving the house along with the keys to their new home.

The home memorial plaques are cherished by the families receiving the homes. They are always located in a place of honor. These families are very grateful for the sacrifice made by caring Americans and feel honored to have the memorial plaque in their home.

The American family requesting the Family Memorial provides Mission of Hope-Honduras with funds for the construction of the home (currently $2600.00).  This donation will build the basic one room 16' by 20' home with six windows, two doors and a cement floor.

The home is modest but gives the family a dry, secure environment in which to live. These families cook over a wood fire using an adobe (mud)stove in an outdoor shelter behind their home.

If desired, the donor may provide an additional donation for one or any of the following:
1) A pila (water tank) used for washing.
2) A toilet and shower.
3) A septic system.
4) An adobe stove for cooking.
The pila, toilet & shower would be built in an enclosed bathroom along with the pila on the back porch.

Mission of hope-Honduras provides the memorial home donor with feedback including pictures and information regarding the family and their new home.

The families receiving these modest homes are overcome with joy. This gift provides them with a dwelling far beyond their means.  What a wonderful way to honor family members by giving new life and hope to people struggling to survive.
